Glaze glaze

By adding lots of glazes of thin colour I hope to build a rich colour on this portrait.

Tint and varnish.

I have started to experiment with colour on my self portrait. The skin colour and background are coloured.
It is not proving easy to get a even colour on the image even with a special medium but the colour seems to have the desired effect.

Self Portrait - hand tinted colour.

This is the first stage of my experiment with hand tinting the self portrait I have made! After researching the process and experimenting with tints I have added the first layer of colour to the skin area. Hand coloured photographs were made from the earliest days of photography until around the 1950s . I was quite taken by the way this technique brings an image to life but at the same time gives a surreal atmosphere to the images treated.

Completed the text on my self portrait

The text from love letters and poems is now complete! I am now learning how use glazes over the text to add colour to my artworks.

Self Portrait Progress

The bottom half of Self Portrait is now done! I am now moving up to the brain area! The stubble has worked well I think. I was wondering how I would approach this but using smaller pieces of poem text seems to have worked to create the texture needed. Soon I will experiment with applying colour!
